Organisation number

All enterprises that carry on commercial activity when registering in the Central Coordinated Register of Legal Entities are assigned two organisation numbers. Only the organisation number for the main entity is used when dealing with customers and suppliers.

Organisation number for the main entity

The organisation number for the main entity must appear on the enterprise's website, in communication with customers and suppliers and on all business and sales documents.
The organisation number for the main entity must also be used in reports concerning the enterprise. It is this number that will appear in searches for business name in the search field "Find company" at brreg.no.

Establishing an organisation number

You are assigned an organisation number when the enterprise is registered.

Organisation number for the sub-entity

Anyone who carries on commercial activity, and/or has declared that they intend to have employees, will be assigned an affiliated sub-entity with a separate organisation number. Even if there are no employees or others receiving remuneration from the enterprise at present, the sub-entity is ready if the need arises in the future. Therefore, most enterprises are assigned a sub-entity upon registration.

Anyone who has business operations in several locations and/or in different industries will generally have a sub-entity with an affiliated organisation number for each of their branches/industries. You can find an overview of an enterprise´s sub-entities by entering the organisation number of the main entity in the search area "Find company". Click on the chosen entity to see the key information about the enterprise (Not available in English) and then select ' Oversikt over registrerte underenheter' at the bottom of the page.

The organisation number for the sub-entity is used primarily when submitting the A-melding.
